Introducing... "Mal•Adjusted"

I've decided to start disciplining myself to draw non-political cartoons on a more regular basis too. So, starting today, I'll try to post a panel feature that I'm calling "Maladjusted." Maybe if I gather up 100 or so, I can start mailing them out to magazines and syndicates and see what happens. At least it's not QUITE as narrow a field as editorial cartooning. If nothing else, it's a fun hobby, right?

Usually you see "web-cartoons" appear on a regular interval, like "Every Thursday" or something like that, but I want to be more flexible- allow my self to go in gluts some weeks and have creative blocks other weeks. Besides, it's not like I don't have a life and a day job.

Family Album

When I first visited Iowa, I discovered a "Mexican" fast food place called "Taco-John's." Turns out it was started in Wyoming and they're really pretty good, as far as the Taco Bell genre goes. But being a native Arizonan, I was kind of a snob where Mexican food goes and very skeptical. I drew this cartoon, applying generous doses of Garison Keillor-esque Midwesternism. I have no idea how old it is or even whether or not they ran it in the Charter Oak-Ute NEWSpaper (I THINK they did)- but I had some fun with it in PhotoShop, making it look like an old Polaroid.

Sorry if I've recently spammed you. Guess I'm a little overly excited about this new blog. If I were actually serious about getting anywhere with this cartooning thing, suppose it would be smarter to spend my time drawing or submitting my stuff to editors- but this blogging is so dang addictive. Anyway, I know I shouldn't spam- I just want to broaden my audience in anyway that I can.

I just decided to post this under today's date, I don't remember what day it ran in the Charter Oak-Ute NEWSpaper back in the summer of '06.

That wasn't the only bird trouble this shuttle had- "STS-121 was the first launch during which NASA took special precautions to deter vultures, particularly the local turkey vultures, from flying over the area. Efforts included the swift removal of roadkill and other dead animals from areas around the launch site." (also Wikipedia)

In case you didn't know it, I coach high school cheerleading. This cartoon was inspired by a great friend and former student, Kenny- who was our first mascot. Believe me, mascots can be surreal, at least Kenny's surreal.
